When I mention that I specialize in Fresh 48 sessions, the response is almost always, "What's that?!" Even after almost 8 years of offering these sessions, I still get asked daily what they entail, what the process involves, and why I am so passionate about them. So, if you're here out of curiosity or are considering booking a Fresh 48 session for yourself, you are in the right place!
What Exactly is a Fresh 48 Session?
In simple terms, a Fresh 48 session is a photography session held at your baby's birthplace within the first 48 hours after birth. But why 48 hours? Typically, moms and babies are discharged from the hospital around the 48-hour mark. However, since the pandemic, here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the discharge timeframe has often been reduced to 24 hours, barring any medical complications. This shift has made me ponder renaming these sessions to Fresh 24's, but for now, the essence remains the same.
Why Choose a Fresh 48 Session?
Fresh 48 sessions capture the raw, real, and emotional moments of your baby's first two days. These sessions are perfect for documenting the first yawns, tiny fingers and toes, and the sweet first moments of bonding. They are a beautiful way to preserve the fleeting, fresh memories of your newborn's earliest hours.
My simplified booking process:
Every photographer has a unique approach to booking and conducting Fresh 48 sessions. Here's how I handle mine:
Initial Contact:
Once your due date is confirmed (usually around the 20-week mark), reach out to me to check availability.
Booking:
If I'm available for your due date, I'll mark myself as on-call for two weeks leading up to and one week after your due date. A $200 non-refundable retainer is required at this stage.
Staying in Touch:
Keep me updated with any changes to your due date, and feel free to ask any questions, at anytime. We can also arrange a Zoom meeting if needed. When you go into labor, text me to give me a heads up.
Arrival:
Once your baby arrives, send me another text to confirm my arrival time. I usually aim for the morning, but this can vary depending on when your baby is born.
The Session:
On the day of the session, I'll be in and out of your space within an hour. Most sessions take about 45 minutes. If medical staff need to check in during our time, we'll pause to let them do their work.
Making It Easy for You
I strive to make the booking process as straightforward as possible because I understand how much you already have on your plate. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to email me anytime or visit my FAQs page for Fresh 48 Sessions.
